Dartmoor’s Dynamic Landscapes (DDL) is a new project, delivered across a partnership of organisations and with local communities running until 2030. It is funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and led by Dartmoor National Park Authority and the Woodland Trust, focussed within a targeted area of Dartmoor; covering the river catchments of the Okement, Dart, Erme & Yealm. Reflecting on the landscape, its features and habitats – the project ambition seeks to better connect people and place for resilience, understanding and appreciation. The programme has a particular focus on the gateway towns of Okehampton, Princetown and Ivybridge that are located within its target area

DHFP as a partner are working to deliver the ‘Hill Farm Hub’; which is essentially one of the 15 projects that comprise DDL; within this overarching Hub there are a number of key activities which complement the work of DHFP more widely. These include;

  • Developing & supporting farm clusters and collaborations between farmers

  • Supporting Commons Associations to help them manage their roles ie. reviewing training, tools or templates

  • Guidance or events on relevant land management opportunities, ELM schemes etc

  • Knowledge exchange and visits with other upland areas for best practice

  • Piloting new technology with farmers or Commons Associations for environmental data and monitoring frameworks

  • Helping to simplify and clarify engagement between the multiple Agencies and organisations active on the ground

HFP will therefore continue to liaise with existing organisations, groups and clusters for awareness as well as approach and welcome new contacts within the target area who would like to potentially find out more, have an idea to discuss, get involved or seek guidance.

Under DDL, the Hill Farm Hub will have a small grant fund available to support the remit of the key deliverables as listed above, and which must be based within the target area; as per the map. (Finer details, terms & conditions are being finalised and will be shared very shortly).

Full details of the DDL project, the partners and their individual activity can be found on the DNPA website, of particular interest will be those also working with farmers and landowners; the Woodland Trust, RSPB, Dartmoor Headwaters and the South West Peatland Partnership.

HFP will work collectively to highlight opportunities, deliver efficiencies and avoid duplication – equally with other external partners such as the Foundation for Common Land who also have an active project supporting Commons Association networks running in parallel.

Further details and updates on DDL project activities will be shared here shortly. For initial DDL enquires about Hill Farm Hub activity please contact us at HFP using the main office email address; hfp@dartmoor.gov.uk or see the DNPA webpage for the broader project overview and community engagement.
